New Concept Academy
Pre-AP Physics
In-Person Class and Grade Levels
Classes are in-person at Kala McBreen Physics Lab located in the West San Jose / Cupertino / Saratoga area. In the fall of 2026, we have a class open at New Concept Academy, its Cupertino campus. The Pre-AP Physics Class is designed for middle and high schoolers (7-9 grade) with little or no previous physics learning experiences, aiming at building a strong math and physics foundation to support students' further studies in math and physical sciences at high school, namely, general physics, physics Honors, AP physics 1, 2, and C.
Experiments and Lab Work
Physics is a subject based on experiments. We offer students in this class great opportunities to be exposed to physics labs, hands-on experiments, and teamwork with their fellow students in the class. We use very classical physics models in mechanics, such as pulley system, inclined surface/ramp, pendulum, At wood machine, and so on, to enhance their understanding of physics concepts, laws, and principles, to train them in problem-solving abilities in physics, to promote their physics way of thinking and research interests, with their observations to the actual motions of objects and real physics processes in the lab.

Ms. Kala 老师的物理先修课是为高中的物理课学习打基础的，适合零基础或没有什么基础的初中生或者高中生 (7-9年级）。物理是一门以实验为基础的学科，这是线下物理课，在物理实验室上课。实验室是周老师自己出资建立，位于Cupertino 学区的Miller-Lynbrook区域，有米尺，测力器，光电门，滑轮组，斜面，单摆，阿特伍德机等力学中的经典物理模型和器材做实验用，学生有很多实验和动手的机会。非常注重学生-老师， 学生-学生之间的互动，注重学习效果和建立物理思维，激发研究兴趣和对数学及科学领域的探索，提高物理里面数学分析和解题的能力。这门课对初次学习物理的学生来说有一定的难度，数学要求也颇高，到后期基本和AP 物理1 重合。但这门课也是很好玩和激发学生对物理类学科兴趣的很好的体验。这门课的后续课程是AP Physics 1.
